OCEA OSV 190 SC-WB “KRI 933 RIGEL” has located the submarine KRI Nanggala-402

27th April 2021

After being declared drowned in the Bali sea, the submarine KRI Nanggala-402 has been located at a depth of 838 meters below the surface thanks to the cooperation of KRI 933 Rigel operated by the Indonesian Navy and MV Swift Rescue from Singapore. The location of KRI Nanggala-402 was discovered after KRI 933 Rigel used its multibeam sonar in addition to its magnetometer and found an underwater contact at the location where the submarine was strongly suspected to be.

The KRI 933 RIGEL was built in France by OCEA Shipyard and delivered in 2015 to the Indonesian Navy with her sister-ship the KRI 934 SPICA. This 60 m Oceanographic and Hydrographic research vessel (type OCEA OSV 190 SC-WB) is fully equipped to support this type of operation, being “the most modern in Asia” as stated by the Indonesian Navy.

TNI Commander Marsekal Hadi Tjahjanto confirmed that all 53 crew members and other military personnel on board had passed away.

The OCEA team would like to express its deep condolences to the families of the entire crew of KRI Nanggala-402.
