The Offshore Patrol Vessel type OCEA OPV 150 "GYPTIS" of the French Maritime Affairs starts its operations in the Mediterranean Sea
12nd May 2022
The new Offshore Patrol Vessel type OCEA OPV 150 “GYPTIS” has reached its home port in Marseille. The French Maritime Affairs are now benefitting from two weeks of training of their crews.
Dedicated to State action at sea, the first mission of the Mediterranean Sea patrol vessel will be to monitor and control the red tuna fishing campaign in the Med.
The vessel, type OCEA OPV 150, was specially designed by OCEA for sustainable and responsible navigation, with the aim of preserving the marine environment:
- Energy optimization: gensets and main engines compliant with IMO Tier III regulations, hybrid propulsion allowing reduced speeds to operate only on electric motors, solar panels, LED lighting
- Control of discharges: air conditioning unit without CFC gas, treatment of grey waters and household waste, catalytic converters to filter exhaust gases
- A virtuous hull and equipment: OCEA-designed aluminum hull and superstructure to reduce the ship's consumption and therefore CO2 and NOx emissions, 100% recyclable aluminum material, REPCET device for real-time tracking of cetaceans in order to limit the risk of collision.
Coupled with an optimized hull and a diesel-electric propulsion mode, the OCEA vessel will consume approximately 50% less than a steel patrol boat of the same size.
